Yesterday saw the League Representative games against West Wales at Treforest Football Club. A large shirt sleeved crowd saw some fine football across the ages. two games were played at Under 12 level with the South Wales Girls League winning both 3-0 and 11-1. At Under 14 level a fantastic game ensured with South Wales winning 4-2 whilst at Under 16 level the South Wales Girls league completed a clean sweep winning 6-1.Many thanks to Stweve Hammett and the rest of his committee from West Wales for the help in the playing of the games and we here at South Wales look forward to travelling down to West Wales next season to continue the strong links formed by the two Leagues. Lastly a big thank you to referree Paula Small who officiated in the middle at both Under 14 and Under 16 games in sweltering hot conditions, and to her two assistants Wayne Tregonning and Peter Small who assisted for the Under 16 game.

Rob Lewis(Sec/chair) -12/05/2008

Theresa Kemble(under 14's rep squad) - 08/05/2008

Having now completed our season I just wanted to say what a pleasure it has been to be involved with girls football.

We have had some exciting, close and memorable matches but the spirit in which the vast majority of these games have been played is a credit to all the clubs but especially to the girls.

This has been my first season as coach and it has been a lot of fun so to all the coaches I've met and regardless of the results, I'd like to say a big thank you and well done.

To the guys who administer the SWGL your hard work is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Finally I'd like to say a special thank you to all the parents who have been so brilliant in supporting our team this season.

Mike Thomas(Dinas Powys U14s) - 07/05/2008

Rona Woodland(Treforest FC) - 07/05/2008

In reply to Glenns latest posting yes I agree that results should be on here and updated and it is something i would like to see improved on. The first stage though Glenn would be down to clubs some are not ringing results in as required to do so this as i am sure you will agree doesnt help. Of course that doesnt make it right and hopefully for the new season this will be corrected

Rob Lewis(Sec/chair) - 07/05/2008

After the last League meeting we all agreed that up to the minute results must be posted on this website for it to have any relevance.

It was updated, many thanks , but note that we are now 2 months behind again with the results......can we please finally do something about this?

Glen Perry(crickhowell panthers) - 05/05/2008

On behalf of Mardy Tigers I'd like to say a massive thanks to Rob and the committee, Chris and all the staff at Penydarren Boys & Girls Club and all the officials for making Saturday such a special occasion.

Wayne Jeremiah(Mardy Tigers) - 05/05/2008

Congratulations to Pontypridd U12 Girls for winning the plate competition. It was a great final with some good football from both sides. And thanks to Penydarren for hosting a terrific day which provided these young players with a real experience - running out of the tunnel, hearing their names announced, seeing the big crowd and feeling the highs and lows of the big match. Looking forward to next season.

Mark Ebbens (Thornhill Athletic FC U12 Girls) -  04/05/2008

Next Sunday May 11th sees the Leagues Representative games at all age groups against West Wales at Treforest Football Club. Both the Under 12 and Under 14 kick off at 12 midday whilst the Under 16 kick off at 2pm. Car parking has been arranged at the nearby Glamorgan University. All Clubs with players selected for the League should by now have received an e mail from me if not can you contact me urgently

Chris Hopkins(Caerphilly Castle ladies and girls under12s coach) - 04/05/2008

Yesterdays Finals day at Pennydarren Football Club proved once again to be a big success. Some excellent football was played in front of a very large crowd. The Under 12 Plate semi finals both went to extrat time with Pontypridd defeating Penydarren 1-0 and Thornhill progressing to the Final on penalties against Cardiff City. The Final again went to extra time with Pontypridd eventually winning the Plate trophy 1-0. The Under 14 Final between Mardy Tigers and Cardiff City produced some top class football with Mardy triumphing 4-1 whilse likewise the Under 16 Final between cardiff City and Margam again proved very exciting with Cardiff eventually winning 3-0. Well done to all teams on the day you all done the League proud. It was a disappointment that the Under 12 Finals was not able to be played but hopefully that will come about in the next few weeks. Finally a thanks to all officials of Pennydarren Football Club who made everyone welcome and whose organisation was of the highest possible.

Rob Lewis(Sec/chair) - 04/05/2008

In recent weeks we have played Brynna and Caerau Ely in the league, and I would like to congratulate them on there conduct and the great feel good factor that is with them at all times. These two groups of girls and there coaching staff are a credit to there clubs and the league, with neither results or league position affecting them at all, they are a great model for what under 14 football is all about. Well done girls.

Steve Wootten(Cardiff City Ladies) - 30/04/2008

Everyone then tucked into the burgers and pop and it didn't rain either.....brilliant.

Andrew Perry(Thornhill Athletic Under 12's) - 07/04/2008

It has been proposed that the League runs an UNDER 17 Division next season. This would be in addition to the current Under 16, 14 and 12 divisions. At this stage it would be particularly helpful if clubs [especially those in the Under 16 division] can indicate to me by e mail direct if they would consider entering a team in this division. The whole idea for this division would be that with the age for senior football going up to 16 from next season many clubs may not have enough players to filed senior sides but with girls of 15 being able to play in the Under 17 division then this could really help. I would appreciate clubs contacting me direct asap with their thoughts as to whether they would enter a team in this division.

Rob Lewis(Sec/Chairman) - 26/03/2008

We are now struggling to complete all our fixtures and therefore would ask Clubs to f possible play Easter Sunday. Any Club who wishes to be free of games on that day will NEED TO APPLY FOR A FREE DATE. No free dates will be given to Clubs who have arranged to play in any tournaments. This league's fixtures take preference. Any Club who does this will take the risk of being charged with failing to play a fixture.

SOUTH POWYS GIRLS EASTER FOOTBALL FESTIVAL 2008 - FRIDAY MARCH 28th (Good Friday).

This renown event is back again and is a must for all Junior Girls FC teams.

With over 60 teams last year from far and wide it is a marvellous opportunity for your girls to play different teams from Wales, England and Scotland.

This year, there has been a rule change and NO Academy sides will be present, it'll be purely Club teams facing each other on the grass of the Brecon Beacons. This is even more of an incentive to get your Club teams along.

The age restrictions are based on years of birth, for example 1992, 1994 etc, not whether Under 14.

The teams are 7 aside (squads of 10) except for what would be our Under 16s which play the full 11 aside with a squad of 15. Matches are fully officiated with appointed neutral referees.

This is an all day event and was magnificent in the sun last year (no guarentees though) and with plenty of silverware and good football to be had. You may even be drawn against those teams that you've faced in the SWGL and hoped to escape from......luck of the draw.

Cost is £30 each for first two teams then £20 for each successive team - so get your Under 10s/12s/14s and 16s along for a tremendous 'Club' day out in hopefully 'Sunny' Brecon.

Please contact Jay Probert at jay.probert@powys.gov.uk for full details and application forms or glen.perry@powys.gov.uk who will forward your requests to Jay.

Just to confirm - Anyone wishing to contact Pantyscallog Village U12 or U14 girls will need to speak to Gavin; Tel 07950 707508 Email gad5983@hotmail.co.uk

Gavin Davies(Pantyscallog Village)  - 07/01/2008

We had a couple of games not played this weekend due to Clubs not turning up because the home club had not confirmed the fixture with them. Can I remind all Clubs to abide by this rule and confirm fixtures with their visitors. Likewise it is not really on for teams to just not turn up for fixtures and it is likely that if this happens in the future they may well be charged with "failing to play a fixture". If any Club has NOT received confirmation as per rule [ie Tuesday prior to the game] then their proper course of action should be to ring myself and let me know about it.

Rob Lewis(sec/chair) - 06/01/2008

Can I ask all Clubs to make a concerted effort now to get fixtures played we do in fact only have 16 weekends left in the season and FIVE of them are spoken for ie Easter Weekend, One weekend for Rep trials, Two weekends for Inter League games versus Gloucester and West Wales and of course one weekend for our Cup Finals day. That leaves just ELEVEN weekends. A quick look at the Leagues tells me that in the Under 16 division out of 12 teams only 2 have reached the half way mark of 11 games played with one team left with SIXTEEN league matches to be played. In the Under 14 South we are slightly better with all bar two having reached the half way stage, the Under 14 North is also comparable to the South, nevertheless with our Cup matches due to begin shortly it seems VERY unlikely that any club will not be given evening matches this season. Please be prepared for that.

Blaenavon Blues:

As the guest book as not been updated for several months I am posting my query on the news section. When will the league table, fixtures and results be updated?

Steve Reed (Coach) - 03/02/07

As from Sunday 5th November we will be playing our home games at the Memorial Ground, Blaenavon. For directions to this venue please visit the Blaenavon Blues AFC website - www.freewebs.com/blaenavonbluesafc.

Steve Reed (Coach) - 1/11/2006

U16's - This is just a quick note to inform all visiting teams to Blaenavon this season that we are in the process of changing our venue for home games. For the beginning of the season we will be playing at the Riflemans field, which is on the Abergavenny Road leading out of Blaenavon. Unfortunately there are no changing facilities at this ground, so any visiting teams will have to change at our changing rooms which are situated at the Memorial Ground. This is a 10 minute walk from the Riflemans field or a 2 minute drive in the car. We are hoping that our playing field at the Memorial Ground will be available to play on by mid October? Please do not hesitate to contact me for directions.

On behalf of Blaenavon Blues I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

To all the u16 clubs taking part in the Welsh Cup, lets go and show the rest of Wales how good our league is.

Good luck this weekend.

Girls and Boys Football Camps Kicking Off Again!

Following on from the success of our Kids Football Camps in the summer we have decided to run 2 more 2 day camps:

Camp Barcelona – 30th and 31st October 2006 – 2 day camp

Camp Real Madrid – 2nd November and 3rd November – 2 day camp

The camps will be run in partnership with Cardiff City Ladies F.C and as before will be for Girls and Boys aged from 6 – 14 years of age.

The fun packed 2 days costs only £28.00 and consists of coaching from fully qualified coaches, who are all CRB checked and first aid trained.

The kids will also get a kit (shirt and shorts) which they will get to keep and on the final day will be presented with a medal and certificate of achievement.

The camps will be run from Cardiff University Sports Centre at Talybont chosen for its excellent facilities both indoor and outdoor and the secure and safe environment it provides.

The Camps run from 9.30am until 3.30pm. Following registration the first coaching sessions start. The aim here is get the kids gently warmed up and familiar with the coaches, other kids on the camps as well as getting used to their surroundings.

The majority of coaches will have played at international level. Backed by Cardiff City LFC the children will be coached according to their age groups and experience levels for the younger/less experienced it will be all about having fun with a football – football cricket, football snakes and ladders etc. The children can expect to build up their confidence levels.

For the older children the coaching will be focused at improving their football skills and give them ideas to practice after the camps.

Cardiff City LFC Club Coach Michele Adams said "Our summer camps have been a real success and provided a marvellous opportunity for children of all ages and abilities to come together and have fun with football. As an added bonus they have been coached by international standard players and got the coaching to meet their specific needs and improve their skills".

This scheme is all part of Cardiff City LFC’s commitment to their work of providing football within schools and children in the community. .

Crickhowell Panthers:

TH

THE FLAGS ARE PACKED – CRICKHOWELL PANTHERS  OFF TO HOLLAND.

The flags are packed, the sterling exchanged and an air of calm resignation hovers above the players , coaches and parents contemplating the forthcoming trip to Holland.

The specially designed and printed kit is about to arrive along with a myriad of associated footballing paraphernalia, tracksuits, water bottles, kitbags etc. All of the adults have been ordered to purchase and wear the uniform of a red Cymru T shirt and whilst I daren’t disagree, I do feel a bit uneasy being an Englishman wearing Welsh colours, people have been beheaded for less (by both nations!).

The groups and fixtures have been drawn and we’re all wondering what’s the significance of being drawn in Group F is?………what’s more with three teams from the United States in our group, how much do they really know about ‘soccer’ anyway?

And how can they have names like the Cheetahs, Flying Foxes and the Seekers without reference to any town or Zip code?  My initial reaction was that these were all names of 60s pop groups and I sniggered to myself smugly.  A few seconds later I realised that the two initials after all of their team names ‘SA’ stood for ‘Soccer Academy’.  I then thought about the prospect of losing all three matches by high scores!

All of the players seem to be getting excited. The usual high standard of training has gone out of the window, usually reliable players start to play up, some have been grounded by their parents and we’ll all really wondering what we are doing taking 15 girls aged thirteen to fourteen to that most law abiding and strictly controlled country in Europe, Holland. Some players are even asking what Amsterdam is really like and ‘can we have a trip there to see the sights?’ . Combined with this some other players are wondering if they can have ‘friendly’ games with some of the boys teams that are there. Worried, no not us?

It has been a marathon. It has taken considerable fund raising and organising.

Many coaches, parents and players have given practical support and pulled many strings. Time and money has been spent in great amounts to give these girls the opportunity and chance of a lifetime and that after all what it is all about, well in our minds anyway. If we come away with ten or so losses, as long as we have done our best and performed to the best of our ability and most importantly, had a thoroughly great time we’ll be happy.

Hopefully the girls will do themselves, the Club, their County and of course Wales proud (being the only Welsh team there from over 300 competing). We have our flags ready as we believe that the Club will be parading in the opening ‘Olympic type’ ceremony along with all of the other nations– that will be worthwhile on it’s own.

Silverware would be nice, but so would the return of all 15 players on the same coach,

A blank arrest sheet, no red or yellow cards, little knowledge of the Dutch word for ‘Hospital’ and no sign of a police escort.

Glen Perry - 12/07/2007

A multi national Dutch printing company Oce, has just announced that it is sponsoring the Crickhowell Panthers U14 team on their travels to the Youth Friendship Games (Reggio Haarlem Cup) being held in Holland in late July.

This along with the substancial fund raising activities of the players and parents will ensure that the squad of 15 will be billeted comfortably at a Centre Parcs facility in Holland.

Not only representing the Club but Powys County and perhaps Wales (we're not aware of any other Welsh club attending), the Panthers have had special commemorative kit designed and made in the Welsh colours for the event.

With teams from around the world attending we only hope that they can perform on the pitch and do us all proud. It will certainly be exciting, nerve jangling and a wonderful experience...lets hope that we can get some results!

Glen Perry - 23/03/2007

Just like to say that despite the sleet and the 2-0 loss to Merthyr at the weekend, the Referee had a tremendous game. From start to finish he was on top of the game and very fair. Only a young chap but all of the Crickhowell staff shook his hand in appreciation.

Well done that man, sorry don't know your name but connected to the Merthyr Club.

Glen Perry - 24/01/2007

Well done to all players and parents who took part, both organising and attending the Panthers Christmas Fayre held this weekend.

It was a very proffessionally presented affair with 14 large stalls selling many Christmas gifts. We had a brilliant turnout thanks to our large and tenatious Marketing Dept (Sonja, Lisa and Brydon) and many others who helped behind the scenes.

What's more we raised £550 profit for the Club.

Here's to the next money making scheme - the pre Christmas bag packing for 4 days at Morrisons in Brecon...... this just might supply the airline tickets to the Summer festival in Holland?

Glen Perry - 03/12/2006

SUBURB SPECTACLE AND ADVERT FOR JUNIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL.

I'd just like to briefly say that although the result went against us (Crickhowell 0-2 Mardy- U14 North) it was a brilliant advert for the game. To see the effort, skill and team play from these two teams (first time out on senior pitch with all the new rules)was stunning. It was an end to end game with plenty of scoring chances, brilliant saves, passing moves and played with a perfect 'sportswomanlike' attitude.

Well done to all of the players and Coaches alike, well done Mardy deserved winners - I don't mind losing games like that, truely magnificent !

Maerdy:

Just a note to say how good it was to see such a young referee and what a fine job he did when the tigers visited Georgetown on Jan.21st 2007. The game was played with tremendous attitudes from all players and helped by a fine display from the young official. Well done and good luck.

Porthcawl LS v Cardiff A - 25/03/07

Many thanks to Kerry and the whole team at Cardiff A for their patience and understanding on Sunday. Their fair play and sportsmanship made for a very enjoyable game of football played to the highest level, and also refereed in a brilliant flowing manner.

Thanks all at Cardiff A.

Porthcawl LS v Cardiff U14's 29/10/06

Just a short note to say what a true advert for what girls football is all about after yesterday's game.

Everything from the players abilities & attitude to the supporters and coaches, contributed to the best game I've seen all season. Thanks to Lorraine and her team for such a great afternoon.
